Azoramide

• Background :

  Azoramide is a modulator of the unfolded protein response (UPR) .1 It improves endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein folding and activates ER chaperone capacity to protect cells against ER stress. It displayed potent anti-diabetic activity in two mouse models by improving insulin sensitivity and pancreatic β cell function. Azoramide increased SERCA expression leading to enhanced calcium retention in the ER indicating calcium homeostasis as a possible mechanism for its anti-diabetic acitivty.
