The Interleukin 1 family is a group of 11 beta trefoil cytokines.1 Interleukin-1, produced mainly by blood monocytes, mediates the panoply of host reactions collectively known as acute phase response .2 Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) is a potent stimulator of bone resorption, and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of high bone turnover and osteoporosis.3 IL-1beta belongs to proinflammatory cytokines, promote cancer cell adhesion and liver metastases by up-regulating the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) on hepatic sinusoidal endothelium (HSE) .4

Assay Principle
Aviva's rat IL-1 beta ELISA Kit was based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for IL-1 beta has been precoated onto 96-well plates. Standards (E.coli, V117-S268) and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for IL-1 beta is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate TMB was used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The absorbance of yellow is proportional to the rat IL-1 beta amount of sample captured in plate.
