Background
PIM kinases (Proviral Integration of Molony murine leukemia virus), PIM1, PIM2 and PIM3, are a family of serine/threonine protein kinases that play crucial roles in cell survival, proliferation, and drug resistance. PIM kinases are overexpressed in several tumors and promote growth and survival of malignant cells through cell cycle regulation and/or inhibition of apoptosis. PIM3 does not seem to play a role in normal cellular processes, but it is overexpressed in breast, kidney, brain, and liver tumors. The SSRP1 (structure specific recognition protein 1) /ETS1 /PIM3 pathway seems to be closely linked to the proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion of cancer cells in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. PIM3 may contribute to the disorder by increasing c-Myc expression, PGC-1α (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1α) and ATP and alter the cellular energy metabolism. Knockdown of PIM3 combined with overexpression of TLR7 (Toll like receptor 7) can impact cancer cell survival, and PIM-3 can play a role in regulating CD8+T cells, B and NK cells. A deeper understanding of this protein and the development of new inhibitors to be used in mono- or combinatory therapy will continue to expand the repertoire of tools available in cancer therapy.
Description
The Mouse PIM3 Kinase Assay Kit is designed to measure PIM3 (Proviral Integration of Moloney murine leukemia virus 3) serine/threonine kinase activity for screening and profiling applications using Kinase-Glo® MAX as a detection reagent.
