This compound, also known as Benzophenone 3, is commonly utilized as a UV filter in tanning and skin protection products. Oxybenzone is an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) capable of crossing the placental and blood-brain barriers. It impairs autophagy, alters the epigenetic state, and disrupts retinoid X receptor signaling in apoptotic neuronal cells.
