Description
Liquidambaric lactone is a compound isolated from Euonymus grandiflorus Wall.Liquidambaric lactone may have inhibitory HIV-1 reverse transcriptase activity.Among the 25 fractions obtained from the alcohol extractive of the roots of Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae) by silica gel column chromatography, three fractions demonstrated inhibitory HIV-1 reverse transcriptase activity.Furthermore, six pentacyclic triterpenes were isolated by reduced pressure column chromatography and identified as oleanonic acid (1), Liquidambaric lactone (2), lantadene A (3), lantadene B (4), oleanolic acid (5), and 25-hydroxy-oleanolic acid (6) by spectral analysis. Compounds 2 and 6 were reported firstly in the plants of Verbenaceae family, and the structure of 6 was confirmed firstly by X-ray crystallography.
