Description
Interleukin-10 (IL-10), originally known as Cytokine Synthesis Inhibitory Factor (CSIF), is an 18.5 kDa protein that shares over 80% homology with the Epstein-Barr virus protein BCRFI. The reported biological activities of IL-10, which may be inter-related, include inhibition of macrophage mediated cytokine synthesis, suppression of the delayed type hyper-sensitivity response, and stimulation of the TH2 cell response which results in elevated antibody production.

Assay Protocol
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in 5mM Sodium Phosphate, pH 7.2 to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
Endotoxin
< 0.1 ng/µg of protein (< 1EU/µg)
Purity
> 98% by SDS-PAGE & HPLC analyses
Bioactivity
Determined by the dose-dependent co-stimulation (with human IL-4) of MC/9 cells. The ED50 was found to be ≤ 2.0 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of ≥ 5 x 105 units/mg.
