BackgroundCathepsin K (CTSK, EC 3.4.22.38), a lysosomal cysteine protease, is involved in osteoclastic bone remodeling and resorption. In addition, it also degrades collagen, gelatin and elastin. Biovision’s Cathepsin K Inhibitor Screening Kit utilizes the ability of active Cathepsin K to cleave the synthetic AFC based peptide substrate to release AFC, which can be easily quantified using a fluorometer or fluorescence microplate reader. In the presence of a Cathepsin K-specific inhibitor, the cleavage of this substrate is reduced/abolished resulting in decrease or total loss of the AFC fluorescence. This simple and high-throughput adaptable assay kit can be used to screen/study/characterize potential inhibitors of Cathepsin K.
-
GeneCTS protease activity also measured by zymograph electrophoresis of Cathepsins. This cathepsin is supplied in 1.

Additional descriptionTissue, pathway, proteinase, peptidase, protease ,acrosin, lipoprotein, activator, caspase, trypsin, papain, esterase inhibitors are proteins or receptor ligands or receptor antagonists that bind to an enzyme receptor and decreases its activity. Since blocking an enzyme's activity can kill a pathogen or correct a metabolic imbalance, many drugs are enzyme inhibitors. Not all receptor antagonist that bind to enzymes are inhibitors; enzyme activator ligands or agonists bind to enzymes and increase their enzymatic activity, while enzyme substrates bind and are converted to products in the normal catalytic cycle of the enzyme.
