It is the first enzymein the metabolic pathway that uses S-adenosyl-L-methionine as the methyl donor. HNMT isresponsible for the production of histamine in the mammalian brain. It is ubiquitously expressed andthe level of HNMT is a critical factor in airway responsiveness to histamine.
