Description
Guanethidine sulfate, first synthesized in 1959, is a research compound that lowers blood pressure by disrupting neurotransmitter metabolism in postganglionic sympathetic nerves. It is used in cardiovascular and autonomic nervous system research, including in vitro receptor studies and in vivo hypertension models.

It has a role as an antihypertensive agent, an adrenergic antagonist and a sympatholytic agent. It is a member of guanidines and a member of azocanes. It is functionally related to a guanidine. It derives from a hydride of an azocane.
