MPTP hydrochloride is a neurotoxic precursor to MPP+ that crosses the blood-brain barrier to selectively induce dopaminergic neuron apoptosis. It is extensively utilized in both in vitro and in vivo studies to model Parkinson's disease pathology and investigate neuroprotective strategies.
