BPI Bactericidal/Permeability-Increasing Protein Human
Description:
The native protein BPI is isolated from human buffy coats and has a molecular mass of 53kDa.Synonyms:
Bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein; CAP 57Gene Name:
BPIUniProt:
P17213Reactivity:
HumanTissue Specificity:
Restricted to cells of the myeloid series.Purification:
Greater than 70% as determined by SDS-PAGE and capillary electrophoresis.Function:
The cytotoxic action of BPI is limited to many species of Gram-negative bacteria; this specificity may be explained by a strong affinity of the very basic N-terminal half for the negatively charged lipopolysaccharides that are unique to the Gram-negative bacterial outer envelope. Has antibacterial activity against the Gram-nagative bacterium P.aeruginosa, this activity is inhibited by LPS from P.aeruginosa.Shipping Conditions:
