  L-Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR or ALC) is an acetic acid ester of carnitine that facilitates movement of acetyl-CoA into the matrices of mammalian mitochondria during the oxidation of fatty acids. In addition to his metabolic role, acetyl-L-carnitine posses unique neuroprotective, neuromodulatory, and neurotrophic properties this may play an important role in counteracting various disease processes.

• Assay Principle :

  This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. A monoclonal antibody specific to Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) has been pre-coated onto a microplate. A competitive inhibition reaction is launched between biotin labeled Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) and unlabeled Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) (Standards or samples) with the pre-coated antibody specific to Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) . After incubation the unbound conjugate is washed off. Next, avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. The amount of bound HRP conjugate is reverse proportional to the concentration of Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) in the sample. After addition of the substrate solution, the intensity of color developed is reverse proportional to the concentration of Acetylcarnitine (ALCAR) in the sample.
