Background Information
Beta 2 Microglobulin is a component of the class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC). It presents the antigenic peptides to the immune system. It is present in small amounts in serum, csf, and urine of normal people and to a much greater degree in the urine and plasma of patients with tubular proteinaemia, renal failure or kidney transplants. The levels of Beta 2 Microglobulin are increased in multiple myeloma. The protein has a predominantly beta-pleated sheet structure that can form amyloid fibrils in some pathological conditions.

Properties
Human proteins, cDNA and human recombinants are used in human reactive ELISA kits and to produce anti-human mono and polyclonal antibodies. Modern humans (Homo sapiens, primarily ssp. Homo sapiens sapiens). Depending on the epitopes used human ELISA kits can be cross reactive to many other species. Mainly analyzed are human serum, plasma, urine, saliva, human cell culture supernatants and biological samples.
