  • Description
The immunoglobulin light chain is the small polypeptide subunit of an antibody ( immunoglobulin). The approximate length of a light chain protein is from 211 to 217 amino acids. Increased levels of free Ig light chains have also been detected in various inflammatory diseases. Very recent studies have shown that Ig light chains not only activate mast cells but also dorsal root ganglia and neutrophils, expanding their possible role as mediators in inflammatory disease.

  • Additional description
Human proteins from Homo sapiens human species. Homo is the human genus, which also includes Neanderthals and many other extinct species of hominids. Specific human epitopes are selected for human ELISA kits.

  • Short name
immunoglobulin light chain variable region [ ]
  • Technique
    light
  • Isotype
Antibody fragments and scFv fragments, single chain variable fragments can be E. coli expressed. Fragment peptides for polyclonals give monoclonal like antibodies as the epitope is very small. IgG Fc and(ab)2 fragments are small and stable subunits of the antibody obtained by enzymatic digestion. Complement fragments, bp DNA fragments are common.

MeSH Data
  • Name
  • Concept
Scope note: An in vitro allergen radioimmunoassay in which allergens are coupled to an immunosorbent. The coupled allergens bind the IgE in the sera of patients which in turn binds radioisotope-labeled anti-IMMUNOGLOBULIN E antibodies.
