Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts

  • Description:

Fibroblasts are mesenchymal cells derived from the embryonic mesoderm. They are one of the easiest types of cells to grow in culture and their durability makes them amenable to a wide variety of manipulations ranging from studies employing gene transfection to microinjection. Fibroblasts secrete a non-rigid extracellular matrix that is rich in type I and/or type III collagen. During wound healing, fibroblasts switch from a migrator, repopulation phenotype to a contractile, matrix-reassembling phenotype. Choroid fibroblasts are exposed to a dynamic environment that influences cellular VEGF expression, which plays a significant role in angiogenesis and macular degeneration.HOCF from AcceGen Research Laboratories are isolated from human ocular choroid tissue. HOCF are cryopreserved at primary culture. Each vial contains >5×10^5 cells in 1 ml volume. HOCF are characterized by their spindle morphology and immunofluorescent method with antibody to fibronectin. HOCF are negative for HIV-1, HBV, HCV, mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast and fungi. HOCF are guaranteed to further expand for 15 population doublings at the condition provided by AcceGen Research Laboratories.
