(39 kDa) transcription factor expressed in embryonic stem cells (ESC) that function with other factors such as NANOG and SOX2 to regulate pluripotency. Down regulation of OCT4 has been shown to trigger cell differentiation, thus it can be used as a marker for undifferentiated ESC or IPS (induced pluripotent stem) cells.
