Description
Encoded by the CTLA4 gene, Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte Antigen 4 (CTLA-4), also known as CD152, is a protein that functions in immune system regulation. It is expressed on the surface of helper T cells and transmits and inhibitory signal to T cells. Diseases associated with the CTLA4 gene include various autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
