Description
Dexmedetomidine is an imidazole derivate and an active d-isomer of medetomidine. Medetomidine is a racemate of the stereoisomers levomedetomidine and dexmedetomidine. Dexmedetomidine is a potent α2-adrenergic receptor agonist which shows analgesic, anxiolytic and sedative properties. It is approved for use as short-term medication for analgesia and sedation in the intensive care unit.
