PLAP, Placental Alkaline Phosphatase, is a tissue specific, trophoblast-derived, 70kDa, glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) -anchored, dimeric, Zn2+ metallo glycoprotein that catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphomonoesters into an inorganic phosphate and an alcohol.
