Description
Rabbit polyclonal to MUC1.Mucin 1 (MUC1) is a member of the mucin family. It is a membrane bound glycosylatedphosphoprotein. It anchors to the apical surface of many epithelia by a transmembrane domain, withthe degree of glycosylation varying with cell type. MUC1 can act as an adhesion or anti-adhesionprotein. It also serves a protective function by binding to pathogens and functions in a cell signalingcapacity. Overexpression, aberrant intracellular localization, and changes in glycosylation of MUC1have been associated with carcinomas.
