Anti-alpha-Fetoprotein Purified
- Background: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is present in fetal plasma, and it binds e.g. copper, nickel, and bilirubin. Measuring of alpha-fetoprotein level in amniotic fluid can reveal severe fetal defects. In adults, elevated AFP concentrations in the plasma can indicate hepatocellular carcinoma or teratoblastoma. In some individuals, hereditary persistance of alpha-fetoprotein can be observed without any obvious pathology.
- Specifications: The mouse monoclonal antibody AFP-11 reacts with human alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP), a 70 kDa oncofetal antigen. AFP is a major fetal plasma protein, but is not present in healthy adult tissues. Elevated AFP concentrations in adult plasma may be an early marker of hepatocellular carcinoma or teratoblastoma, while high concentrations in amniotic fluid may indicate severe congenital defects of a fetus.
