  DAPI is a popular blue DNA dye. It is employed in flow cytometry, chromosomal labeling, and fluorescence microscopy as a nuclear counterstain. The dye has a 20-fold fluorescence boost when it binds to the minor groove of dsDNA, with a stronger affinity for A-T rich areas.
