Background:
Capsaicin is an agonist at the TRPV1 receptor, a ligand-gated non-selective cation channel (1, 2). It exhibits neuroprotective effects in a model of transient global cerebral ischemia and induces release of substance P from afferent nociceptive specific neurons (1). Powerful excitant of peripheral sensory nerve endings, specifically unmyelinated afferent neurons (C-fibers). Reversibly inhibits aggregation of platelets (3).Description:
