Background
VANGL2 (VANGL Planar Cell Polarity Protein 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with VANGL2 include Neural Tube Defects and Vangl2-Related Neural Tube Defect. Among its related pathways are CDK-mediated phosphorylation and removal of Cdc6 and Wnt Signaling Pathway and Pluripotency. The protein encoded by VANGL2 is a membrane protein involved in the regulation of planar cell polarity, especially in the stereociliary bundles of the cochlea. The encoded protein transmits directional signals to individual cells or groups of cells in epithelial sheets. This protein is also involved in the development of the neural plate.
