(4Z) -4-Nonenal is a male-produced sex pheromone of the tropical West African shield bug, Sphaerocoris annulus. This compound is used in research on insect chemical ecology, particularly for studying pheromone-mediated behavior in both field (in vivo) and laboratory olfactometer (in vitro) experiments.
