Amitivir (LY 217896) is an inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) inhibitor that suppresses replication in dividing MDCK cells. While it elevated serum uric acid asymptomatically in studies, it proved ineffective against influenza A (H1N1) in experimental models, limiting its application to basic IMPDH and antiviral mechanism research.
