Succinylacetone (4,6-Dioxoheptanoic acid) is a potent and specific inhibitor of δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD), effectively blocking heme biosynthesis. It is widely used in biochemical research to model tyrosinemia type I and to study porphyrin metabolism disruptions in both in vitro and in vivo experimental systems.
