RABBIT ANTI BIK (N-TERMINAL)

  • Gene Name:

    [BIK]
  • NCBI Gene ID:

    638
  • Reactivity:

    Mouse
  • Storage Conditions:

Store at 4 °C or at -20 °C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life: 18 months from date of despatch.
  • Specificity:

This item detects an epitope within the N-terminal (NT) region of Bcl-2-interacting killer (Bik) also known as natural born killer (Nbk). Bik is a Bcl-2 homology domain 3 (BH3)-only protein of 18kD which requires the BAX gene for activation. Bik forms heterodimers with various antiapoptotic proteins such as Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL, inhibiting their antiapoptotic function. This can result in the release of Ca2+ and cytochrome C into the cytosol, leading to apoptosis.

Loss of Bik is a common feature of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and is thought to act as a renal tissue-specific tumour suppressor gene.
