Description
The nuclear pore complex (NPC) facilitates bidirectional transport of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm in eukaryotic cells and is composed of over 100 distinct subunits. A significant number of these subunits belong to a protein family known as nucleoporins (Nups), characterized by the presence of O-linked N-acetylglucosamine residues and a distinctive pentapeptide repeat motif (XFXFG) . gp210, also referred to as Nup210 (nucleoporin 210 kDa) or POM210, is a 1,887-amino-acid single-pass type I membrane protein. It localizes to both the endoplasmic reticulum and the nucleus, with specific enrichment at the NPC. Ubiquitously expressed, gp210 shows the highest expression levels in the pancreas, testis, lung, ovary, and liver. As a nucleoporin capable of dimerization, gp210 plays an essential role in NPC assembly, fusion, and structural integrity. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms of gp210 exist, and the protein is subject to post-translational phosphorylation.
