Specificity
This item specifically recognises the 180kDa NR2B subunit of the NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor when phosphorylated at Tyr1472. Receptors for NMDA belong to a group of ionotropic glutamate receptors which play a key role in the mediation of glutamate neurotransmission within the mammalian central nervous system (CNS), including involvement in memory and learning processes. Several antagonists and agonists of NMDA receptors (NMDAR) have been identified, including the glutamate analogue Homoquinolinic acid, which displays a higher affinity for NR2B-containing NMDAR. Properties of NMDAR include modulation by glycine, inhibition by Zn2+, voltage-dependent Mg2+ blockade and high Ca2+ permeability. The involvement of NMDAR in the CNS has become a focus area for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease(Popke, E.J. 2003) and also epilepsy and ischemic neuronal cell death.

Storage_stability
Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use. Shelf Life: 12 months from date of despatch.

Description
This antibody needs to be stored at + 4°C in a fridge short term in a concentrated dilution. Freeze thaw will destroy a percentage in every cycle and should be avoided. The receptors are ligand binding factors of type 1, 2 or 3 and protein-molecules that receive chemical-signals from outside a cell. When such chemical-signals couple or bind to a receptor, they cause some form of cellular/tissue-response, e.g. a change in the electrical-activity of a cell. In this sense, am olfactory receptor is a protein-molecule that recognizes and responds to endogenous-chemical signals, chemokinesor cytokines e.g. an acetylcholine-receptor recognizes and responds to its endogenous-ligand, acetylcholine. However, sometimes in pharmacology, the term is also used to include other proteins that are drug-targets, such as enzymes, transporters and ion-channels.

About
Rabbits are used for polyclonal antibody production by MyBioSource. Rabbit antibodies are very stable and can be stored for several days at room temperature. MyBioSource adds sodium azide and glycerol to enhance the stability of the rabbit polyclonal antibodies. Anti-human, anti mouse antibodies to highly immunogenic selected peptide sequences are" monoclonal like" since the epitope to which they are directed is less than 35 amino acids long.
