Specificity and cross reactivityPAI-1 This item recognises an epitope within the internal region of human PAI-1, a 45kD serine protease inhibitor which is the principle inhibitor of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase (uPA). Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 is also known as Serpine1, and due to its inhibitor function of tPA and uPA, is an inhibitor of fibrinolysis. _x000D_PAI-1 is present at increased levels in various disease states, and has been linked to an increased occurrence of thrombosis in obesity and the metabolic syndrome. Defects in serpine1 are characterized by abnormal bleeding.
