Dark red powder
Solubility

Soluble in water with cherry red colour. Slightly soluble in alcohol. Addition of HCl to its aqueous solution does not change the colour but NaOH produces a yellow precipitate. It dissolves in concentrated H2SO4 to a cherry-red solution which does not change colour on dilution.
