Paraformaldehyde os a white, crystalline powder having an odour of formaldehyde, soluble in water. It is recommended for use in the preparation of formalin fixatives for tissues or cells when the samples are to be used in florescence studies. It is commonly used as an industrial fungicide, germicide, and disinfectant, and as a preservative in mortuaries and medical laboratories.
