Background Information
Podoplanin is a 36 kDa type I transmembrane sialoglycoprotein. Podoplanin is widely expressed in different cells such as glomerular podocytes, type I alveolar cells, osteocytes, mesothelial cells, choroid plexus, glia cells, some neurons, fibroblasts, etc. It is also expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells and can be used to detect lymphangioma, Kaposi’s sarcoma, epithelioid mesothelioma, hemangioblastoma, seminoma and angiosarcoma which may have undergone lymphatic differentiation.

Properties
Human proteins, cDNA and human recombinants are used in human reactive ELISA kits and to produce anti-human mono and polyclonal antibodies. Modern humans (Homo sapiens, primarily ssp. Homo sapiens sapiens). Depending on the epitopes used human ELISA kits can be cross reactive to many other species. Mainly analyzed are human serum, plasma, urine, saliva, human cell culture supernatants and biological samples.
