DescriptionAcarbose is an inhibitor of α-glucosidase and pancreatic α-amylase with antihyperglycemic activity. Acarbose binds to and inhibits α-glucosidase, an enteric enzyme found in the brush border of the small intestines that hydrolyzes oligosaccharides and disaccharides into glucose and other monosaccharides. Acarbose has been used to inhibit postprandial hyperglycemia associated with diabetes without cardiovascular complications.
