  • Description
Ferritin is a protein of 450 kDa consisting of 24 subunits that is present in every cell type. The heavy chain of Ferritin also possesses ferroxidase activity, this involves the conversion of iron from the ferrous (Fe2+) to ferric (Fe 3+) forms. This limits the deleterious reaction which occurs between ferrous iron and hydrogen peroxide known as the Fenton reaction which produces the highly damaging hydroxyl radical.
  • Formula
    C49H80N12O15
  • Molecular Weight
    1077.23
  • Additional description
Monoclonals are usually produced in mouse as host species and polyclonals in rabbit or goat. Multi species reactivity is achieved by selecting consensus epitopes when blasting the gene for a reactive, innugenic epitope that is the same in the different target species.

  • Short name
    ferritin heavy chain [Multiple ]
  • Isotype
Antibody fragments and scFv fragments, single chain variable fragments can be E. coli expressed. Fragment peptides for polyclonals give monoclonal like antibodies as the epitope is very small. IgG Fc and(ab)2 fragments are small and stable subunits of the antibody obtained by enzymatic digestion. Complement fragments, bp DNA fragments are common.
  • Alternative name
ferritin heavy epitope fragment [Multiple species]
