  The cysteine proteases termed lysosomal cathepsins have long been thoμght to be primarily involved in end-stage protein breakdown within lysosomal compartments. Cathepsin L functions to regulate cell cycle progression throμgh proteolytic processing of the CDP/Cux transcription factor.
