  STARGAZIN This item recognises an epitope within the C-terminal region (CT) of rat stargazin, a 36kDa member of the transmembrane AMPAR regulatory proteins (TARP) family, which plays a vital role in the regulation of the trafficking and localisation/targeting of synaptic AMPA (-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole-4-propionate) receptors (AMPARs). _x000D__x000D_AMPARs are a major group of ionotropic glutamate receptors, highly concentrated at the postsynaptic density (PSD) of excitatory synapses, which require strict regulation for the control of synaptic strength in the brain. Stargazin has been identified as a vital AMPAR-interacting protein which binds to AMPARs via its extracellular domain, whilst interacting with PDZ scaffolding proteins such as PSD-95, via a cytosolic C-terminal PDZ-binding motif.
