Biacore AB

Biacore AB, established in 1984 as Pharmacia Biosensor AB in Uppsala, Sweden, was a pioneering company specializing in the development of instruments for biomolecular interaction analysis. The company gained prominence for its innovative use of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology, enabling real-time, label-free detection of biomolecular interactions.

In June 2006, Biacore AB was acquired for $390 million and subsequently became part of GE Healthcare Life Sciences. This division was rebranded as Cytiva in April 2020. Under Cytiva, the Biacore brand continues to offer advanced SPR-based instruments, widely utilized in various research fields, including protein-protein interactions, drug discovery, and vaccine development.

Biacore systems are designed to provide precise measurements of binding affinities, kinetic rate constants, and thermodynamics of interactions. These instruments are integral in analyzing molecular interactions in real-time, supporting advancements in biomedical research and pharmaceutical development.
