Axis-Shield Density Gradient Media is a leading provider of high-quality density gradient separation media, widely utilized in cell biology, immunology, and molecular research. Their products are renowned for their reliability and precision in isolating and purifying various biological components.
Product Range
Axis-Shield offers a comprehensive suite of density gradient media tailored to specific applications:
- Nycodenz® (Iohexol): A non-ionic, non-toxic, and metabolically inert iodinated medium, ideal for separating cells, subcellular organelles, membranes, macromolecules, and viruses. It is freely soluble in water and can form gradients up to 80% (w/v) with a density of 1.426 g/ml. Nycodenz® is particularly suitable for isolating living cells due to its low toxicity.
- OptiPrep™: A sterile, endotoxin-tested solution of 60% iodixanol in water with a density of 1.32 g/ml. OptiPrep™ is designed for applications requiring controlled osmolality, such as isolating viruses, subcellular organelles, membranes, macromolecules, and cells. It is manufactured under strict EU cGMP compliance and is endotoxin-tested to ensure high quality.
- Lymphoprep™: An isotonic, sterile, polysaccharide-based solution forming a density gradient suitable for the separation of lymphocytes and mononuclear cells from whole blood or buffy coats. Lymphoprep™ is widely used in immunology and clinical diagnostics.
- Polymorphprep™: A ready-made, sterile, endotoxin-tested separation medium optimized for human granulocyte (polymorphonuclear leukocyte, PMN) isolation. Following centrifugation of whole undiluted human blood samples through Polymorphprep™, PMNs accumulate in a distinct band above pelleted erythrocytes and below mononuclear cells retained at the sample/medium interface.
Applications
Axis-Shield's density gradient media are employed in various research and clinical applications:
- Cell Isolation: Efficient separation of specific cell types from whole blood or tissue samples, essential for research in immunology and cell biology.
- Subcellular Fractionation: Isolation of organelles and cellular components to study protein functions and cellular processes.
- Virus and Protein Purification: Isolation of viruses and proteins for further analysis or therapeutic applications.
- Scientific Research: Support for studies in cell biology, immunology, and molecular research, providing reliable and reproducible results.
