- Scientific contextCytochrome P450 Reductase is an enyme that is required for the transfer of electrons from NADPH to cytochrome P450 in microsomes. It has also been found to transfer electrons to Heme oxygenase and cytochrome B5. Cytochrome P450 Reductase is found localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, tethered by its hydrophobic N-terminal tail. Mutations in the gene encoding Cytochrome P450 Reductase (POR) have been found to cause congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Antley-Bixler syndrome, amenorrhea and disordered steroidogenesis.
