This protein has been implicated on several mechanisms such as suppressing both transgene and virus-induced gene silencing by reducing the levels of small interfering RNA (siRNA), attachment and modulation of leukocytes by biding to host ITGAL and playing a role as antagonist of host tetherin (BST2) by disrupting its antiviral effect.
