  • Description
Cluster of differentiation 106, also known as Vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the VCAM1 gene. In inflammatory conditions and in cardiac allografts undergoing rejection, VCAM-1 is upregulated in endothelium of postcapillary venules. Arterial expression is also found in experimental models of atherosclerosis in the rabbit. Cybulsky et al.(1991) mapped the gene to chromosome 1 by Southern analysis of somatic cell hybrids. Kumar et al.(1994) mapped the murine gene to chromosome 3 near Amy1. VCAM1 functions as a cell adhesion molecule. The protein mediates the adhesion of lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils to vascular endothelium. It also functions in leukocyte-endothelial cell signal transduction, and it may play a role in the development ofatherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. CAM741 works similar to cotransin in that it represses the biosynthesis of VCAM-1 in cells by blocking the process of cotranslational translocation, which is dependent on the signal peptide of VCAM-1. Among the lung metastasis signature genes identified, several, including VCAM-1, were functionally validated.
  • Immunogen
An amino acid sequence from the C-terminus of mouse VCAM1 (YTIRQAQLQDAGIYECESK) was used as the immunogen for this VCAM-1 antibody.
  • Storage
After reconstitution, the VCAM-1 antibody can be stored for up to one month at 4oC. For long-term, aliquot and store at -20 deg. Celcius or lower. Cycles of freezing and thawing can denaturate the peptide chains of the antibodies and reduce their sensitivity and/or change their affinity. Prepare aliqotes in such a manner so that freeze-thaw cycles are minimized. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
  • Localization
    Cytoplasmic, membrane
  • Properties
If you buy Antibodies supplied by NJS poly they should be stored frozen at - 24°C for long term storage and for short term at + 5°C.
