About recombinant protein
Beta-NGF is a neurotrophic factor structurally related to BDNF, NT-3 and NT-4. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. Beta-NGF is a potent neurotrophic factor that signals through its receptor beta-NGFR, and plays a crucial role in the development and preservation of the sensory and sympathetic nervous systems. Beta-NGF also acts as a growth and differentiation factor for B lymphocytes and enhances B-cell survival. The functional form of human beta-NGF is a noncovalently disulfide-linked homodimer, of two 13.5 kDa polypeptide monomers (238 total amino acid residues). The three disulfide bonds are required for biological activity.

Activity
Biological activity was determined by its ability to stimulate chick E9 DRG neurite outgrowth. The ED50 is < 1.0 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1 x 106 units/mg.

Keep at
The lyophilized NGF beta recombinant protein is stable for at least 2 years from date of receipt at -20˚C. Reconstituted NGF beta is stable for at least 3 months when stored in working aliquots with a carrier protein at -20˚C. As with any protein, exposing NGF beta recombinant protein to repeated freeze / thaw cycles is not recommended. When working with proteins care should be taken to keep recombinant protein at a cool and stable temperature.
