Background Information
Human complement C5a is a 74-amino acid glycopeptide generated during complement activation from the a-chain of complement C5. C5a is a potent chemotactic factor for human peripheral blood neutrophils and monocytes, and is believed to play an important role in a number of inflammatory conditions. The 74 amino acid, human C5a protein expressed in E. coli with a 6 amino acid, N-terminal His·Tag sequence and 28 amino acid proprietary vector sequence necessary for expression (C5a without His-tag is alailable, BioVision Cat # 4995B). The recombinant protein is not further processed to remove the additional sequence. Recombinant C5a has an activity similar to that of serum derived C5a based on enzyme assay of myeloperoxidase release.

Properties
Human proteins, cDNA and human recombinants are used in human reactive ELISA kits and to produce anti-human mono and polyclonal antibodies. Modern humans (Homo sapiens, primarily ssp. Homo sapiens sapiens). Depending on the epitopes used human ELISA kits can be cross reactive to many other species. Mainly analyzed are human serum, plasma, urine, saliva, human cell culture supernatants and biological samples.
