  GLUTATHIONE PEROXIDASE This item detects human glutathione peroxidise (GSH-Px), a selenium-containing tetrameric enzyme found in mammalian erythrocytes. GSH-Px has an important role in protecting cellular and subcellular membranes from oxidative damage, and functions to detoxify peroxide though the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic peroxides. _x000D__x000D_An increase in GSH-Px in tumour cells may be associated with resistance to drugs that act by generating reactive oxygen species, for example doxorubicin.
