  Phosphate-buffered saline (abbreviated PBS) is a buffer solution and Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS buffer), pH 7.4, stabilized is a water-based salt solution containing sodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride and, in some formulations, potassium chloride and potassium dihydrogen phosphate.
