Scientific context
Histone H4 is one of five histone proteins involved in the structure of chromatin in eukaryotic cells. H4 has a main globular domain and a long N terminal tail and is a structural component of the nucleosome. It therefore is subject to covalent modification.

Polyclonals can be used for Western blot, immunohistochemistry on frozen slices or parrafin fixed tissues. The advantage is that there are more epitopes available in a polyclonal antiserum to detect the proteins than in monoclonal sera.
