Application And UsagesWestern blotting (0.5-4 µg/ml). However, the optimal conditions should be determined individually. Recombinant human IGFBP-5 (Cat.# 4723-25) can be used as a positive control. Other applications have not been determined.

DescriptionHuman IGF-BP5 is a cysteine-rich secreted protein produced by vascular smooth muscle cells. It is the major IGF-binding protein present in bone tissue and helps potentiate the action of IGF-I on smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts or osteoblasts. Studies show that IGF-BP5 acts as a growth inhibitor and pro-apoptotic agent in breast cancer cells. IGF-BP5 overexpressing mice show an increase in neonatal mortality, reduced female fertility, whole body growth inhibition, and retarded muscle development.

Additional descriptionIGF-I, IGF-II, insulin-like growth factors -1 and -2 are important regulators of signaling that mediates growth and metabolism in cells. Insulin-like growth factor -1 shares structural homology with proinsulin and is mainly produced by liver. IGF-1 acts via specific receptor, IGF-1R, a heterodimeric tyrosine kinase receptor that signals to various second messenger pathways such as MAPK, Raf/Ras and PI3K cascades.
