  • Background Information
Hexokinase is the first enzyme in the glycolytic pathway, catalyzing the transfer of a phosphoryl group from ATP to glucose to form glucose-6-phosphate and ADP. In vertebrates there are four major glucose-phosphorylating isoenzymes, designated hexokinase I, II, III, and IV This enzyme is found in most cells, but there is tissue specificity for the particular type of hexokinase. Hexokinase1 is found in the adipose tissue and liver and encodes a ubiquitous form of hexokinase which localizes to the outer membrane of mitochondria. Mutations in this hexokinase1 have been associated with hemolytic anemia due to hexokinase deficiency.

For Research Use Only! Not to be used in humans
  • Properties
Human proteins, cDNA and human recombinants are used in human reactive ELISA kits and to produce anti-human mono and polyclonal antibodies. Modern humans (Homo sapiens, primarily ssp. Homo sapiens sapiens). Depending on the epitopes used human ELISA kits can be cross reactive to many other species. Mainly analyzed are human serum, plasma, urine, saliva, human cell culture supernatants and biological samples.
